Family clan of tax fraudsters captured after two years on the run
© PCR Prague detectives from the 10th Division of Prague I have successfully concluded a two-year search for a family that was avoiding imprisonment. The 60-year-old man, the 51-year-old woman, and their 33-year-old daughter were convicted of tax evasion, which cost the state nearly 30 million crowns.
Between 2016 and 2018, the family committed tax evasion amounting to over 26 million crowns. In 2023 they were scheduled to go to prison, but the father fled to Italy while the mother and daughter repeatedly cited health reasons to delay their appearance.
International Cooperation and the Escape from Italy
Thanks to an active investigation, the family’s father was tracked down and apprehended in Italy. However, on the day before his planned extradition to the Czech Republic, he managed to evade the Italian authorities by removing his tracking device.
The Gradual Process of Apprehension
In February of this year, the mother failed to report to prison, prompting investigators to arrest her on the basis of an order for her delivery to begin serving her sentence. She is currently serving a five-year term.
The Raid on the Father and Daughter
A month later, the daughter was also expected to surrender, but she evaded reporting. Detectives discovered that the father, who had escaped from Italy, was moving around the country. He was detained by a patrol from a mobile response unit while in a car, where a foreign ID was identified. However, the police quickly ascertained his true identity. During a vehicle search, they found over one million crowns in cash.
The father and daughter are now paying for their crimes in prison. The father is serving a six-year sentence, as is his daughter, who was located shortly after him.
